Hi! I'm Amanda Jenkins. For over three decades, the world of hairdressing has been my passion. My journey started at Toni & Guy. I was surrounded by some of the best hairdressers in the world, and it was a great time to be in the industry. I had many people to look up to, and my desire to work alongside them kept me practicing. My creativity was beginning. I took many classes to improve my skills, and while things eventually clicked, it didn't come easily.
Still, even with all the artistic drive and the wish for clients to like my work, which is essential for our business, a quiet problem grew. Even though I was active and started doing yoga early in my hairdressing career, my body, especially my back, suffered from the job's demands.
Getting injured many times in my twenties was a clear, early warning that something was missing in the usual way of doing things. As I became an educator, I kept teaching the same old way: "look at what I'm doing, know your angles, and do it." I focused on standing straight, but didn't truly understand how the body works.
The big change happened when I got my first certification to teach yoga. This wasn't just about my own fitness anymore; it was like discovering how the human body truly moves. This new knowledge completely changed how I taught hairdressing. Then, when I had to start doing online cutting classes, even though I was against online teaching at first, it turned out to be a great thing. I noticed I was correcting my students' actual body positions more than when I taught in person, because I watched them more closely from a distance. For example, when we teach cutting or styling, I always say to take a few steps back and look from different angles.
This made me even more curious about how the body works, how we hold ourselves, how injuries happen, and why people think they're doing what the teacher says, but small things like a tired arm or shoulder affect the shape they're trying to create.
This is precisely why I created what I offer today. My journey, from an eager student dealing with physical pain to an educator who truly understands body mechanics, has led to a program designed to help hairdressers. It's more than just learning techniques; it's about building a strong, healthy body to do your best work, avoid injuries, and keep loving your job for many years. I've been through this, felt the struggle, and found the answer, and now I'm here to help you have a more lasting and successful career.
